Clippy mat or proddy mat?..we call them proddy mats others will call them clippy mats. They are really hard wearing, I have some down on my kitchen floor that have been there 15 years! This one is nearly finished (it's been on the go for 2 years!) It's done on a frame which was made from an old bedstead by my husband's Grandfather. They were made slighly differently by my side of the family, we didn't use a frame , it was just held and worked on your knee, usually with an old sharpened peg! I've inherited a lot of 'prodders' but my favourite to use is made from animal horn, it's the one third from the left.

Wow! Don't think I've ever seen one of these in progress! It's fscinating stuff. Did you design it too?
This is gorgeous if I'd have had something down on my kitchen floor for 15 years it would have rotted by now
Love your rug, not sure how exactly you get the material tied into the canvas though. The effect is fab !
Fascinating. Never heard of wither name and bet this is local social history you're recording. Love that.
Fantastic rug - I love these but the couple I've made have disintergrated under foot. You've clearly got the knack for longevity - well done!
like your rug and the bright colours..I have got a rug tool but not sure if its a proddy or clippy though and its certainly not vintage like your ones are
This is looking fab Gail! Up here in Geordie land there's a different name again - what you have there is a proggy mat :o)
This is beautiful - never heard of either of the names tho but it looks very similar to what I would call a rag rug... not sure if it is the same thing... loverly...x
