Chevrons!

...are everywhere  and being the lazy crafter that I am I wanted a chevron  punch....could I find one? No! but I do have a few square punches .... so here's how to make quick chevrons..
Cut a strip of paper the same width (or less) than the width of your square punch.

 

Draw a line along the length of the strip in the middle, then mark equal distances.. this determines the width of your chevrons... I used the marks on the craft mat as a guide. Do this on the wrong side.

 

Put the strip in the punch diagonally, lining up the centre horizontal line with the corner and the vertical lines with the sides.. punch..discard the punched piece..  

 

Line up the lines on the strip as before and punch...flick the pointed ends of the paper out of the way of the punch or you will cut off the points..... there's your first chevron!

 

This will work with any size of square punch and any width of paper ( as long as it's not wider than your punch)

That's what punches can be............I wanted to make a scalloped edged banner but it needed to be quick to do and I wanted the scallops to match at the point!.....not so easy but this is how I did it.

Draw a rectangle 15x20cm, find the mid pint at the bottom and draw lines to the top corners.. this is your basic banner shape.

Use a Stampin'up scallop punch and place the point as shown
punch along the edge...

Tun the banner and place as shown , (keeping the banner the same face up) punch along the edge.....you should have a near perfect rounded point.

Want Flowers?

Ever been stuck for flowers that match your project?. not anymore, make these using any size of scallop punch and a few random petal punches.

Punch out your scallop shapes, a thin cardstock is best, these were done with Papermania ( I know but this one is real pretty )Rose Garden Take your scissors and cut between each scallop...... not right to the centre or you'll fall apart! Place face down onto a soft surface... a mouse mat or similar, I used the black spongy back of a Sizzix die! Take a rounded rub-on stick and press down on the tip of each petal and pull towards the centre of the flower. This creases the petal and gives a realistic look to the flower.

Turn over and with circular motion rub the centre of the flower flat! Add more layers with different size scallops or use other flower punches and shape the petals in the same way.
